August 15, 2009, SightLine Health Forms Lubbock Partnership to Establish New Radiation Facility

LUBBOCK, TEXAS, August 15, 2009—SightLine Health joins forces with prominent group of Lubbock physicians to develop a state-of-the-art clinic that will provide Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy, (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy to cancer patients in the Lubbock area.

SightLine’s newest facility will be located at 424 N. Utica drive, centrally located to serve the Lubbock and surrounding communities. Construction is underway with plans to open in the first quarter of 2010.

The SightLine Lubbock Radiation Center will employ the latest technology on the market for treating cancer with radiation—the Clinac iX Linear Accelerator, manufactured by Varian Medical Systems. This equipment allows for the most precise radiation treatment with the fewest side effects. Services will be provided in a highly patient-focused environment.

In addition to Radiation Oncologists, the new SightLine facility will be staffed by a group of accredited professionals.  Among them is a Cancer Navigator whose job is to support the patient and their family through the entire treatment process. The Cancer Navigator will assist patients in getting answers for everything from side effects caused by the treatment to dietary questions, making appointments and arranging lodging for the duration of treatment.

The SightLine Lubbock facility will treat patients with all types of cancer or other conditions that can benefit from radiation therapy.

Participating urologist, Jorge Brothers, MD, is excited about the opportunities it presents to his prostate cancer patients. “While traditional radiation for prostate cancer is a highly effective therapy, there are risks for unpleasant side effects that can greatly affect a patient’s quality of life, especially due to unnecessary radiation to surrounding tissue and organs. Working with SightLine will allow me to provide innovative and highly precise therapies such as IMRT and IGRT that will help eradicate the cancer in a manner that is quicker, more effective and less debilitating.”
