July 1, 2009, SightLine Health Forms West Houston Partnership to Establish New Radiation Facility

HOUSTON, July 1, 2009— SightLine Health joins a group of renowned multi-specialty physicians to in developing a state-of-the-art clinic that will provide Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy, (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy to cancer patients in the West Houston area.

SightLine’s third Houston area facility will be located at 2610 N. Sam Houston Parkway W. (at Westheimer). Construction is underway with plans to open in the first quarter of 2010.

The SightLine West Houston Radiation Center will employ the latest technology on the market for treating cancer with radiation—the Clinac iX Linear Accelerator, manufactured by Varian Medical Systems. This equipment allows for the most precise radiation treatment with the fewest side effects. Services will be provided in a highly patient-focused environment.

In addition to Radiation Oncologists, the new SightLine facility will be staffed by a group of accredited professionals.  Among them is a Cancer Navigator whose job is to support the patient and their family through the entire treatment process. The Cancer Navigator will assist patients in getting answers for everything from side effects caused by the treatment to dietary questions, making appointments and arranging lodging for the duration of treatment.

The SightLine West Houston facility will treat patients with all types of cancer or other conditions that can benefit from radiation therapy.

Breast surgeon, Arlene Ricardo, MD, is excited about the new venture. “Currently, lumpectomy followed by radiation is the most common form of treatment chosen by women diagnosed with breast cancer. Traditional radiation methods can often have some serious side effects such as skin burn, damage to healthy tissue in the uninvolved breast, or even damage to the surrounding organs. At SightLine, the most modern and innovative techniques are used for breast cancer radiation. These treatments minimize potential complications and provide improved outcomes. One such treatment is HDR (High Dose Radiation) brachytherapy, which radiates the breast from within the lumpectomy cavity, sparing unnecessary radiation to normal tissue. Through SightLine, patients will have easy access to the best breast cancer treatment Houston has to offer.”
